Hong Kong Harbor

More than 35 years ago, I picked up a Nikkormat (an old low end Nikon).

The Cow Jumped Over The Moon!
I couldn’t believe it…On the way home from a week long Milky Way photo shoot, I was looking out the plane’s window, and there it was – a cow jumping over the moon!.... I hadn’t slept much the previous week 🙂

I grew up in Hong Kong and the photo opportunities were everywhere. I particularly enjoyed the offbeat, and unusual type of shots. Long night time exposures, like the one across the top of this page, were always fun.

As the years went by a lot of film went through that camera. To keep costs down, I bought big bulk rolls of film and rolled the film onto cartridges. I developed a lot of my own pictures.

I moved up to more advanced Nikons, and eventually tried out their new Digital SLR. The early DSLRs were fairly limited and the images were not that impressive. My iPhone takes better pictures than my first DSLR!

The nice thing, however, is that pixels are free, and the feedback is immediate. This is great as it allowed for lots of experimentation. As the years go by, the sensors in the cameras get better and better. The software to process and index the pictures also improves tremendously.

Things that were impossible with a film camera are now very doable with the more advanced DSLRs. The Milky Way shots on this site are examples of what is now possible.

After several nights of being out all night shooting The Milky Way, you tend to get a bit goofy! Here I am pointing out my dinosaur track "discovery".

There is a bit of a learning curve taking Milky Way pictures, but the results are very rewarding. Nothing makes me happier than to hand someone one of my prints for the first time; their reaction is usually that of amazement.

As I started to show friends my Milky Way shots I was often asked if I sold them. At the time, I just gave them away, but that did give me the idea to start this web site and to have a limited selection of photographs for sale on it. My plan is to add more, and switch some out just to keep things fresh.

If you do enjoy these kinds of images, please be sure to “like” my Facebook Cam Marcus Photography page and sign up for my email list (bottom of this page). I’ll be posting things in both places.

Thanks for taking the time to stop by. Please take a minute or two to look at some of the Milky Way shots – after all, it is our home!

The prints really are nice. Don’t take my word for it, get a couple and decide for yourself. 🙂
